To break it down, most people check into a residential program (either by force or will) and are given a specific counselor and are expected to attend several educational group sessions where they learn about their disease. Although not everyone believes it is a genetic disease, it has been known to affect those with a family history of addiction more strongly.

Inpatient Rehab Programs

Inpatient rehab programs offer a wide variety of treatment options. Most are 28 to 90 day programs, but can last longer if need be. The rise in addiction has risen through the years, thus creating the need for more facilities.

Advantages of inpatient rehab

There are several advantages of attending an inpatient/residential program. For one, your privacy is protected; also there is more one on one attention. Some places do not allow phone or internet access, because it is helpful for the addict to focus on themselves and their recovery process, without distractions. If the addict has health insurance, there are many facilities that accept insurance, thus lowering the cost of treatment.

Finding the right facility that fits ones needs is important; for example, if nutrition and exercise will help with the recovery than it is important to research what facilities have to offer, as there are state funded centers that keep patients on what one would consider a “lock-down”, meaning no privileges until they actively commit themselves to recovery. However, many inpatient centers teach their patients how to change their habits and adapt to a new healthy lifestyle.

Is inpatient rehab for me?

They need to seek the best possible treatment for recovery, while considering all the variables at play, like their financial situation, and insurance coverage. The success rate for addicts who stay in recovery is low, but do not be discouraged. There are thousands of people who have maintained their recovery through hard work and determination. People in recovery need to change their whole lifestyles; this can be difficult especially if there are limited resources in your area.

Here are a few tips to help you stay in recovery. In the early stages of recovery, there are many changes a person will go through, both emotionally and physically; the emotional part alone can be somewhat of a nightmare. Getting angry for no reason, or being irrational are among the feelings that will surface. Some people in recovery claim to be on a “pink cloud”, meaning they are super happy for a while, but that feeling eventually disappears and the rest of their emotions surface. Physically, they may feel better, after detoxing of course. They may have more energy to do daily tasks that they were once unable to do, or did not care about doing.

Outpatient Rehab Programs

Outpatient rehabilitation facilities differ from inpatient rehab centers in the sense that one does not need to stay in a residence during the time of your treatment. For outpatient treatment one is able to get counseling or therapy during the day and can go home after.

Advantages of outpatient rehab

There are several advantages to this type of treatment. A major advantage is that one is still able to work and take care of their families. Another advantage is the cost as many inpatient facilities are run around $13,000 and can go up to $80,000 for a typical 28 day program. Outpatient treatment may also help the addict in adapting to living in their new everyday lives, and learning the coping skills necessary for maintaining their recovery.

Is outpatient rehab for everyone?

There are several things to consider before choosing which course of treatment to pursue, as many people do not have the ability to leave their families, jobs, schooling, etc. It also depends on the person who is addicted, whether or not they want to get help plays an important role in deciding what form of treatment will be the best fit. Many addicts are in denial about their addiction, and will put off getting any type of treatment for years; however, the sooner they recognize that their problem is out of control and seek treatment, the more probable their success rate will become for long term sobriety.
